We planned for our IMS Europe Summit 2020—our annual meeting to exchange experiences, ideas, visions, and more—to take place in October in Cambridge, United Kingdom. With your safety top of mind, we have decided to forgo the face-to-face meeting this year. Instead, we will be hosting live virtual events in November to learn from each other and inspire new ideas.
Let's meet in November and plan our future at the IMS Europe Summit 2020
So far, 2020 has been an incredible year with a huge impact on our personal lives, the way we work, the way we meet, and the way students learn! The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the implementation of online learning in a big way, and more than ever, the work done by the IMS community has proven to be essential. Without the work of so many IMS members (now over 570 organizations), the transition to virtual learning would not have been as smooth. As we prepare for the future of education, we must leverage the knowledge of the IMS community to put into place practices to evolve the teaching and learning digital ecosystem continually.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Throughout November, IMS Europe will host four virtual Summit sessions. Each session focuses on a different topic related to online learning and edtech in Europe.
These sessions are offered free and open to the public; IMS membership is not a prerequisite to participate.
SCHEDULE & AGENDA
The confirmed dates and topics for the summit sessions are:
Monday, November 2 – Update on the Work of IMS Global and IMS Europe [View the Day 1 Agenda]
Monday, November 9 – Evolving a Plug-and-Play Ecosystem in Europe [View the Day 2 Agenda]
Monday, November 23 – Progress with IMS Digital Credentialing and Open Badges [View the Day 3 Agenda]
Monday, November 30 – Measuring Student Success using Learning Analytics and Digital Assessments [View the Day 4 Agenda]
The four Summit sessions will run from 11:00 to 15:00 CET, with a 1-hour lunch break halfway.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE
Topics are of interest to institutional IT and academic leaders, edtech supplier executives and product managers, academic technology staff and managers, and directors of online programs.
WHO WILL CONTRIBUTE
The IMS Europe community will shape most of the summit sessions. Every session starts with a keynote speaker. Then there will be an opportunity for European IMS members to do a 10-minute lightning talk followed by a panel discussion and an interactive activity to share best practices and interact with other attendees.
Most of the content of the first session will come from the IMS staff, looking back at the year 2020, and sharing the vision and plans for the year to come.
LIGHTNING TALKS CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
We will accommodate five lightning talks at each of the November sessions. European IMS members can contribute to the agenda by sharing your online learning story of spring/summer 2020 in a 10-minute lightning talk. This is an opportunity for you to share how you experienced the fast upscale of online learning, what you learned, what inspired you, and what advice you have for the broader European edtech community. You can find more information on the lightning talks here.
IMS EUROPE LEARNING IMPACT AWARDS COMPETITION
IMS gives awards for the most outstanding lightning talks of the November 2020 Summit sessions—determined by the projects that demonstrated the most potential to improve learning impact. Winning an IMS award gives you recognition within the IMS community and the opportunity to participate in the global IMS Learning Impact Awards 2021 competition. You can find more information on the awards here.
Sponsoring this series of sessions gives you exposure during the sessions, demonstrating your organization's commitment to accelerating IMS standards across Europe. You can find more information on the sponsor program here.
There is no fee to attend the November virtual sessions. However, we do ask that you register in advance. To register for one or more of the sessions, please go here. All session recordings and slides will be made available to registered attendees.
Help us make this European IMS event a success and join us in November!
IMS EUROPE TECHNICAL MEETING IN OCTOBER
In addition to the four meetings in November, the bi-annual IMS Europe Technical Meeting is on October 14, from 11:00-15:00 CET. Sessions will appeal to a more technical audience like learning application developers and architects. More information can be found here.
