IMS Global Learning Consortium Establishes New Venue for Learning Technology Leaders: e-Textbook, Information Analytics, and Student/Faculty Services for e-Learning will be Addressed at Special Meetings at University Maryland University College, September 5-6
Lake Mary, FL - 13 August 2007 -IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS GLC) announces the initial work agenda of its recently formed Learning Technology Advisory Council (LTAC) will focus on several key learning industry challenges. IMS GLC formed the Learning Technology Advisory Council (LTAC) earlier this year to provide a new way for chief learning officers, chief information officers, and leaders of e-Learning and educational technology at an institutional, school, or system level, to work collaboratively to address pressing industry challenges. The LTAC includes a select set of international learning technology leaders who are responsible for implementing large scale learning innovation. At its inaugural meeting on July 19, 2007 in Redmond Washington, the LTAC identified several key challenges facing higher education, including the need for information analytics to assess the affects and quality of flexible learning; and, designing digital, cost-effective substitutes for textbooks - e-Textbook. The format of the LTAC collaboration leverages the IMS GLC's collaborative workgroup process, its broad base of existing and emerging learning standards, such as Common Cartridge, and its global membership of the world's most innovative learning technology architects. Thus, LTAC efforts are underway to address these challenges, with project groups under formation to establish the technical and practical standards for employing holistic solutions to these pressing issues.
The LTAC will meet again on September 5-6, 2007 at University of Maryland University College (UMUC). In addition to furthering the work on the new initiatives already mentioned, a summit meeting to explore the challenges associated with providing student and faculty services for e-Learning initiatives will be held. "UMUC is pleased to sponsor the upcoming LTAC meeting in September 2007, as the agenda for this meeting will focus on critical aspects of e-Learning, i.e. student and faculty services, and will support improving the quality of online learning for all students in higher education. We invite our peers to attend this meeting and participate in this interactive agenda, including panel discussions, demonstrations, and case studies pertinent to this area of e-learning." said Dr. J. Robert Sapp, Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Information Technology at University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
